We seek a dynamic individual to develop and lead a cutting edge research program exploring the role of law and policy in regulating and supporting the sustainable use of natural resources. Sustainability involves balancing or integrating the economic, environmental and social dimensions of natural resource use. A proven track record of research in the area of natural resources, law and policy is required. Demonstrated interest in the role of Indigenous peoples and other affected communities related to the sustainable use of natural resources will be highly favored. Within this broad thematic area, we look for someone to come forward with a distinctive scholarly agenda.

The individual will be cross-appointed between the College of Law and the School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS). A track record of cross-cutting activities/research in the fields of natural resource or environmental law, policy and/or regulation is required. Experience in collaborative, team-based research is desired. The successful candidate will lay out a vision for developing a research partnership between Law and SENS, as well as for building on an international reputation as a recognized leader in the field.

The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in law or a JD (or equivalent) as well as a PhD in an appropriate field although variations upon these requirements are possible in the context of an appropriate strong terminal degree that prepares the individual for scholarship in the area of the CRC. The candidate’s terminal degree must have been obtained within the last ten years. A proven track record of peer-reviewed publication and externally funded research is required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students is required.

The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenured or tenure-track position at the assistant or associate professor level (the salary bands for this position are as follows: Assistant Professor $86,844 - $104,357 and Associate Professor $104,357 - $121,871) and will be nominated for a Tier II CRC.
