The School of Social and Political Sciences (SSPS) is composed of the departments of Anthropology, Government and International Relations, Political Economy, and Sociology and Social Policy, as well as the Graduate School of Government, the Centre for International Security Studies, and the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies. It offers innovative degrees at undergraduate and postgraduate levels that attract the very best students from Australia and overseas. SSPS is the focus for the strategic development of the social sciences at Sydney with a view to us becoming Australia’s leading centre for research and teaching in the area.

The Department of Government and International Relations was the first politics department at an Australian university. Its teaching covers international relations, public policy, area studies, political theory, comparative politics, and Australian politics. In the most recent national research assessment exercise (Excellence in Research for Australia, 2012), Political Science at the University of Sydney was awarded the highest possible 5 rating, indicating “well above world standard”. The department also has considerable success in attracting external research funding. In addition, we are engaged in a series of interdisciplinary networks and projects, including human rights, democratisation, public policy, immigration policy and law, China studies, and environment and climate change.

As the successful applicant you will:

   be expected to contribute to the undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs of the department, with a particular focus on policy analysis and/or public management
   pursue a research program that receives international recognition, including the pursuit of research grants and regular publication in journals of high standing
   supervise honours and postgraduate research students
   be a participant in interdisciplinary collaborations within the University and with external stakeholder

To be successful you will possess:

· a PhD (awarded, under examination, or very near completion) in public policy or a closely related field

· demonstrated teaching ability and experience in policy analysis and/or public management, including evidence of teaching effectiveness and potential to contribute to curriculum development

· an established track record of high quality research publications and a promising research trajectory

· the potential to supervise honours and higher degree research students

· the potential to contribute to advanced level programs.

Remuneration package: Lecturer (Level B): a competitive remuneration package of $104,644 to $124,263 p.a. is available (consisting of a base salary $88,426 to $105,004 p.a., leave loading and up to 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).
